FREEFLY EMBER S5K + IR FILTER
Infrared filters are used in photography to create a unique and interesting look. It physically replaces the IR Cut filter that is already installed. A filter of this design cuts out all visible light and leaves just the IR light. The image is often converted to black and white for a punchy image with dark skies and white blooming foliage, nature and other elements as with the possibility of using dedicated sources of light to gain other effects.

FREEFLY EMBER vs PHANTOM FLEX 4K DIFFERENCE TEST COMPARISON ON BOLT MOTION CONTROL
Phantom Flex 4K vs Freefly Ember differents on Bolt Motion Control Comparison Test.
By Julio Vallejo and Antonio Urquijo ( High Speed Specialist ) with Nico Alsina Motion Control Operator at El 28 Studios.
What we can find out is that both cameras are two very different pieces of gear and fantastic High Speed tools.
Technologically very different, almost a decade between the two of them.
Ember is a Global shutter sensor while the Phantom 4K is not, Ember nominal ISO is 300 while Phantom 4K Flex is 250ISO but can be pushed to 1250ISO with fantastic results. Ember is a ProRes LT 10Bits Codec while Phantom 4K Flex is a stoning RAW with an amazing range to work in grading in postproduction. Ember can shoot continues long sequences while Phantom 4K can not do that but usually has enough live action time RAM to most of the film industry ends and actions. Ember is so much delicate gear in all of the senses, temperature wise, connectivity, body work etc. while Phantom is a proper digital cinematography camera hard work and hard environments, very consistent and trustful comparing to Freefly Ember system. Both are High Speed cameras are always full of exceptions compare to standard Digital Cinematography cameras as Sony, Red, Arri for example as the critical level of the sensor and different parts of this cameras are working to deliver this level of Speed and media.
Non of the cameras substitutes the other. They are good tools design for different aims. Different dynamic range and color reading.
I believe the best camera would be the one which serve the best your project.

FREEFLY EMBER S5K + ANAMORPHIC LENSES
If you like to shoot with anamorphic glass, you can shoot at a resolution:
4K 4096 x 3072 (4:3) up to 578 fps. (ANA x2).
5K 5120 x 3840 (4:3) up to 464 fps. (ANA x2).
ANAMORPHIC 80mm 1.5X (Silver) + 1.33X Adapter (Blue) | Sample Footage
Here a good example, Freefly Ember 5K combine with an anamorphic glass, where we can contemplate on slow motion the behaviour and primary function of anamorphic lens: to widen the range of aspect ratios that fit within a standard film frame, as the main characteristics of these lenses: ultra-wide aspect ratio, bluish horizontal flare, oval shaped bokeh (the way out-of-focus points of light are rendered) and have a shallower depth of field. Generating a magical and cinematic slow-motion experience where the eye has the time and space to read those dynamics on the image while the bucolic action on slow-motion.
Here another example of a frame shot on a Freefly Ember 5K with Vintage Hawk Anamorphic x2 Lens, We can see the lens horizontal flare and bokeh. Footage without grading.
FREEFLY EMBER S5K GLOBAL SHUTTER
Why global shutter and not rolling shutter ?. Global Shutter mode is very simple to synchronize to and often yields faster frame rates than efforts to synchronize with Rolling Shutter with the same exposure time. Global shutter can also be regarded as essential when exact time correlation is required between different regions of the sensor area.
Global shutter works like a flash photograph, where an electronic signal quickly turns off each pixel simultaneously, preventing light from being recorded. When the shutter opens, light hits all detectors at once, capturing the entire scene in one instant.
Here another example how global shutter is very useful not only in fast pans or on sync, it is also very useful in the case of strobes and flashes in your scene and light hits the all image instead of keeping the top lighted and the lower part of the frame dark as happens with rolling shutter sensors. In that case rolling shutter sensors reads the light from top to down from left to right.

MORE ABOUT FREEFLY SYSTEMS & EMBER HIGH-SPEED CAMERAS
Freefly Systems is best known for creating the world’s first 3-axis digital handheld stabilizer in April 2013: the MōVI M10. Over the years, the company released other products, such as the MōVI M15, the MōVI XL and the MōVI Pro, to carry heavier cameras. More recently, Freefly Systems launched high-end drones such as the ALTA Pro and the Astro.
In October 2020, Freefly Systems launched the Wave, its first high-speed compact camera that quickly sold out thanks to a very “affordable” price tag. In fact, high-speed cinema cameras from companies such as Vision Research’s Phantom are often rental-only units due to their very high price tag. However, Freefly Systems saw that there was a market for tools that would allow content creators to capture slow-motion images without going broke. So, two years later, and with some experience in camera manufacturing, Freefly Systems introduced its second high-speed cinema camera: the Ember S5K.
FREEFLY Ember is designed to push the limits of size, performance, and easer to use. With upgrades to its predecessor, the FREEFLY Wave, this unit offers a global shutter and continuous recording of high-speed footage directly to its internal 4TB SSD up to 48min at 4K.
This unit offers a new Gpixel sensor that shoots 5K at 600fps and 4K at 800fps, with guaranteed clean shadows and higher dynamic range. With its integrated NATO rail, accessory options are endless. All ports are located at the top of this camera, making rig setup that much easier.
Apple Pro-Res. This is the fastest camera to use Apple Pro-Res technology, offering a smooth blend of image quality, ease of use, and data-rate optimization. Just plug into the USB-C port to transfer footage. FREEFLY has also rolled out an Ember iOS app to enable you to go from shooting to sharing in mere seconds, and gives you wireless control over your rig. This camera currently only records in up to Apple ProRes 422 LT.
Freefly Systems are developers and manufacturers of unmanned aerial vehicles and camera stabilisers that have their eyes on the film industry. They are focused on one task: inventing solutions that enable unrestricted and uninhibited camera movement. They develop unmanned aerial vehicles for aerial cinematography as well as gimbals and drones.
